Philip Sawyer, Web Developer

What he does at Sentree: He builds, maintains, and supports websites and web apps, while assisting clients in finding solutions to everyday problems.

Let’s Get Personal

Hobbies: Playing guitar, hiking/camping, and shooting sports
Bucket List Item: “It’s hard to pick just one – I love change and new experiences, which has made for a pretty long bucket list. Here’s one that’s pretty high up on the list, though – I would love to visit at least one beautiful place in all 6 major climate regions.”
Family: “My gorgeous and gracious wife, Brandi”
Hidden Talent: “Take a dollar bill and hand it to someone. Open your thumb and forefinger wide, like you’re going to pinch something thick. Place your hand so that your open thumb and forefinger are parallel to the floor. Then, have your friend with the dollar bill (assuming they didn’t run off with it) dangle the bill in between your open fingers, so that about half of bill is hanging below your fingers. Now, tell your friend to randomly drop the bill at a moment of their choosing. Try to grab it before it passes through your fingers and hits the floor. On a TV show, they declared it impossible after extensive testing of a wide audience. But I can do it.”

Q&A

Who is someone you admire in the WordPress or Tech community and why?

Philip: I would have to take my hat off to Elliot Condon, the author of the Advanced Custom Fields plugin. His plugin single-handedly revolutionized our WordPress devflow many years ago, and it’s since become ubiquitous in the WordPress development community.

What is your proudest WordPress or Career moment?

Philip: Honestly, my goal is to be prouder of my work on each project than I was about any before. So, I’d have to say (with a few exceptions here and there, of course), I’m always proudest of whatever project I did last.

If you weren’t working in web/web tech, what is another career you might like to attempt?

Philip: Two other careers have always stood out to me (and still intrigue me to this day) – law enforcement and emergency medical response.

Tell us something else interesting about you.

Philip: I follow Jesus, though I do so far less than perfectly – and I’m thankful for the ways He has blessed me and carried me through earth-shattering hardship, and brought me out on the other side. It is my aim to do everything I do – including my work – as unto the Lord, giving it my very best.
